Wow — what a year 2021 was! And as we head closer to the end of the first month off 2022, we wanted to take a look back and explore more of what Essence of Overlanding has to offer. As previously mentioned, most of you follow our posts are likely already familiar with these two wonderful people.

Paul is arguably the worlds leading expert in 4×4 conversions and is one of the most respected modern-day expedition explorers. Jo, on the other hands, is one of the most gifted explorers of peoples minds, recognised as one of the top mindset coaches in South Africa. They are also both exceptionally kind, humble and passionate people. People that we are proud to call our best friends and supporters of Satori Africa.

It is with little surprise that a union of two such remarkable people is going to result in something quite special. Taking both of their expertise they are now inviting people to explore the other side of overlanding in their new offering, The Essence of Overlanding.

Essence of Overlanding – EP3: No Better Time Than Now

Change is inevitable – sometimes it is a choice but very often it is imposed on us and we find ourselves in “unchartered territory”….. Adversity brings with it opportunities to explore more of who we are and discover perhaps hidden talents and “roads” we may not have explored if it were not for these obstacles. Travel and more particularly Overlanding, takes you on a journey to expand you and to have an adventure, as each destination unfolds…..There is never a right time to live your dream and follow your heart – NOW is all we have!! So whatever is holding you back….the stories we tell ourselves…… Get out of your own way! Time is short and life is not promised – as we have all learnt in recent times. Regret is a wound the soul doesn’t recover from! Carpe Diem!

Essence Of Overlanding – EP4: Finding Shackleton

Shackleton exemplifies remarkable perseverance as well as survival. This is a story about 2 women whose “inner explorer” and love for adventure, led them to their passion for overland travel. After many years of driving overland and exploring parts of Africa in different vehicles (their own SUV and rentals) – that wasn’t enough….

They have a Dream to do more overlanding and in particular they have a significant trip in their hearts… So these 2 souls took a courageous leap of faith and found their own “Shackleton” to ultimately take them from “Bonnievale to Burton Fleming”. By having the dream they want to fulfil – not letting fear get in their way – not letting the unknown hold them back – trusting the right people to support them and being comfortable to ask for help – their mindset and heart set is the winning formula to manifest their dream! We would like to thank Dana and Deb for being an incredible inspiration to our viewers, especially to other women who have a dream of overlanding in their own 4×4.

Essence Of Overlanding – EP5: Less Is More

‘Travelling light’ is a way of life for us and our philosophy of ‘less is more’ is an extension of that. Excessive weight on your truck, not only becomes a burden on your vehicle, but also makes it more difficult to manage on the road and to navigate more challenging terrain. When planning a truck build for an expedition, we ask: is what we have necessary and does it add value? The same rings true in our daily lives too – as humans we are constantly evaluating. This helps us make clearer and more conscious choices in all areas of our life – our home, our work and our relationships.

The idea of ‘lightness of being’ is important as carrying burdensome thoughts and people can be taxing, as it drains or depletes our energy and can sometimes be a hindrance too. So as we ask the same questions of our truck, we can ask ourselves the same questions of ourselves:

• is this necessary and

• how is this adding value?
